19 of Medvedev's 21 titles have been achieved on hardcourt

A comeback Daniil Medvedev secured his first championship for 882 days with victory over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

Medvedev, a ex- world number one, has experienced a challenging year, winning just one match at the big events and suffering a meltdown at the New York tournament.

The player's varied form on the professional circuit - and struggles with his service game in especial - resulted in him dropping out of the world's top 10 and finally separating with long-term trainer Cervara.

Currently working with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, he has consistently improved in the recent weeks - climaxing in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over challenger Moutet.

It is Medvedev's first title since the Rome competition and maiden on a hard court from March of that year.

The win also signifies he has achieved twenty-one victories at twenty-one distinct events.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a competition with my children at once, so to secure a title is particularly special," said world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This championship is in honour of my younger daughter Victoria, because the maiden victory I got when my first daughter her name was delivered was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had been defeated in his last six championship matches, comprising in Halle earlier this year.

His retrieving play style and frequent emotional displays on court had led commentators to wonder if his ability to compete at the highest level was over.

However the 29-year-old has made changes in recent weeks, striving to approach the net and play assertively, supported by an enhanced serving game.

Medvedev recovered from a disadvantage in the first set against the difficult Moutet, securing four of the concluding five points to go ahead.

Both players swapped breaks in the middle set before Moutet, attempting for his maiden ATP Tour title, gained dominance to push for a third set.

Moutet rescued four early break points in a competitive third set before the Russian secured a break to that score to secure the win.

Fittingly, Medvedev secured victory with a point at the net area, with the Frenchman incapable to control a volley after over two and a half hours.
