British Air Force Typhoon FGR4s have conducted a mission with France's air force in a coordinated attack targeting an subterranean weapons facility in Syria employed by the Daesh militant organization, as stated by the UK Ministry of Defence.

The location, located using surveillance, was assessed as storing arms and explosives, the release indicated, and was situated in hills just above Palmyra in Syria's central region.

"Our fighter planes utilized Paveway IV guided bombs to target a several entry passages leading to the site... preliminary assessments suggest the target was engaged successfully," officials stated.

There was no indication of any civilian impact in the operation conducted Saturday night and all the aircraft returned safely, the MoD added.

The British jets were supported by a Voyager aerial refuelling aircraft.

Daesh - also known as the so-called Islamic State - imposed militant control over large swathes of both Syria and Iraq until 2019.

"This strike demonstrates the UK's leading role, and resolve to stand shoulder to shoulder with our partners, to eradicate any resurgence of IS and their violent and radical beliefs in the area," the British Defence Secretary the Defence Secretary remarked.

UK warplanes have performed overwatch operations over Syria to "deter any attempted comeback" of IS following its military defeat at the climactic battle in Baghuz in the year 2019, the ministry said.

"I want to thank the personnel of the UK armed forces involved in this operation for their professionalism and their bravery," Healey commented. "They were part of numerous British personnel on duty over the festive period. This action, to eliminate militants who threaten our way of life, demonstrates how our armed forces are always on standby, continuously, keeping Britain secure at home and powerful internationally."

In December, the American forces executed what it described as a "massive strike" against Daesh sites in Syria, subsequent to an assault killed two US troops and a civilian linguist in the Palmyra area.

The UN reports Daesh still maintains roughly 5-7 thousand combatants in Syria and Iraq.
