From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master the talented storyteller has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a colorful mix of characters, and a thrilling plot including divine entities, fiends, and malevolent powers increasing in influence within the urban setting.
Warning: Key plot points for the third episode of the new season are included.
The Warrior Group Revealed
The third episode concluded with a dramatic pause and revealed the first table of characters who will split off from the central cast to undertake their independent quest, apart from the other two tables.
The combat-focused team features Teor Pridesire (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), Wicander (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).
Dividing the Cast
With a large ensemble, it was obvious from the beginning that keeping everyone at a single group would be unworkable.
Hence, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Overture, connecting the individual narratives before splitting into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Strategists, and Explorers.
Characteristics of the Soldiers Table
According to the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who prefer a traditionally charged fight-heavy gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are scarce.
Initially, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might look out of place, but the developments of episode 3 make it clear why these five characters are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.
Motivations for Departure
For one thing, the party has a clear idea where to go next after a brutal opening clash with the enemy group.
Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose demise started the story’s plot—manipulated the foes for his personal gain, invading the secret base, assaulting Thimble, and stealing all the magical artifacts to auction.
Casimir then settled his debts and fled to a fortified location in the northern region, north of Dol-Makjar, with Cyd pursuing him.
Individual Reasons
Secondly, each character has a personal reason to leave the city the urban setting:
- The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, wants revenge.
- The adventurer knows the region and advises that it is a nasty location.
- The warrior and Wicander, having resisted his house’s orders to kill the target and instead rescued him, have no other options.
- Yet, their reputation as important members in House Halovar could help the party access locations they normally couldn’t.
- Moreover, Teor swore a life debt to The cleric for his salvation and will now accompany him wherever.
Pursued by Authorities
Lastly, all of them are wanted by the authorities that rule the city for a multiple motives, making remaining behind too risky:
- The agile adventurer and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
- The warrior and The cleric turned against the powerful family and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
- The fighter is marked for death by the clan.
This leaves them no alternative but to travel to Timmony in search of the antagonist.
Future Episodes
According to the recent installment’s follow-up content, we find out that the Soldiers table won’t be around the following episode, leaving the other eight players to assemble the Explorers and Strategists tables.
Fans can expect finding out which characters will be where in the season’s last Overture episode, released on October 24.
